Sioux City native featured in Sioux City Public Museum exhibit – KTIV

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A Sioux City native will be featured in the new exhibit at the Sioux City Public Museum featuring historical editorial cartoons.

The exhibit features 51 original drawings from metropolitan newspapers around the country, from the 1900s to the 1940s.

One illustration comes from J.N. “Ding” Darling, a Sioux City native, who started his career at the Sioux City Journal and later became a cartoonist for The Des Moines Register.

Matt Anderson, the Curator of History at the Sioux City Public Museum, said the illustration from Darling came out on the date that World War II started, warning about the repercussions of what another European war could mean.

“Some of them are very serious, like that one, some are very humorous. I think people that are interested in political history will be interested in it. And those that are just interested in cartoons and that type of artwork will also be interested,” said Anderson.

The exhibit also features six Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonists. The editorial cartoons are currently on display until March 14.
