Discovery Education, in partnership with Discovery Inc., has announced “Voices of U.S.,” a virtual field trip series featuring U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill along with Iowa Senator Joni Ernst. The special will air on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.

“I could not be more proud to share my experiences as a veteran and in public service with so many students through Discovery Education’s virtual field trip series,”  Sherrill said in an announcement from Discovery. “The opportunities I’ve had to serve have been a privilege, and it is incredible to see so many young people interested in public service. Thank you to Discovery Education and Discovery, Inc. for bringing together all of the presenters for this project, and for honoring Veterans Day in such a fitting way for Discovery’s student audience.”

The series is designed to engage upper elementary and middle school students in a variety of topics related to veterans and public service and support greater student agency. It will feature military veterans and/or active-duty members who will share personal stories about their military experiences and explain why they chose to serve their country; highlight historic locations symbolizing and amplifying the concepts of service, honor and duty; and encourage students to consider ways they can also act and serve their communities.

The series will premiere through the Discovery Education website, DiscoveryEducation.com

SAVE MONTCLAIR LOCAL: We need your support, and we need it today. The journalism you value from Montclair Local, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, depends on the community’s support — we exist because the old model of selling ads alone just can’t fund journalism at the level we endeavor to provide. That’s why you’ve seen other local newsrooms cut back staff or shut down entirely. Montclair Local was created because we believe that’s unacceptable; the community’s at its best when triumphs are celebrated, when power is held to account, when diverse lived experiences are shared — when the community is well-informed.

Montclair is seeking to raise $230,000 from donors, members and grantors between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 to put us on firm footing for 2022, and continue supporting the hard work of our journalists into the new year and beyond.
