Covid-19 deaths spike in October: October is likely to be the deadliest month for Covid-19 in Onondaga County in at least eight months — since the tail end of the winter surge. In the first 22 days of October, 39 people died of the respiratory illness, according to county data. That’s already equal to the number who died in all of September. And, tellingly, this month has been far deadlier than October 2020.

Late comeback lifts Orange over Hokies: It was another close call for the Syracuse football team on Saturday. This time, though, it was the Orange that came out on top. Garrett Shrader tossed two touchdown passes in the final 3 minutes to lead SU to a dramatic 41-36 win at Virginia Tech.

Observations from SU basketball scrimmage: The Syracuse men’s basketball team unveiled its 2021-22 roster Friday night in the Carrier Dome in an intrasquad scrimmage designed to introduce the Orange to paying fans for the first time in about 19 months.
