Movies 16 to screen Yannick documentary
Movies 16 Lubbock, 5721 58th St., is hosting “Yannick: An Artist’s Journey,” at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7.
The Metropolitan Opera presents the feature-length documentary by award-winning filmmaker Susan Froemke that profiles the Met’s Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Following the maestro’s inspiring journey from 10-year-old budding conductor to the pinnacle of the opera world, the film captures the alchemy of the creative process and explores what it means to refine the soul of an artist.

Colonna to perform at BHC
The Buddy Holly Center’s annual Summer Showcase Concert Series returns this summer for its 21st season.
Performances are every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Meadows Courtyard, through Aug. 19. The center is located at 1801 Crickets Ave.
Wendy Colonna is scheduled to perform July 8.
According to her website, in addition to being a 20-plus year touring and recording artist, Wendy Colonna empowers artists and entrepreneurs as a creative career coach, is co-owner of the acclaimed Tips Concerts series and writes award winning custom songs for advertising. Colonna has released eight acclaimed studio albums.
In addition to the free concerts, guests are encouraged to visit Buddy Holly exhibitions and the Fine Arts Gallery during Summer Showcase hours with free admission.
Carnifex to perform at Jake’s
Carnifex is scheduled to perform at Jake’s Sports Cafe & Backroom, 5025 50th St., Ste. A, at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 9.
Carnifex is an American deathcore band from San Diego County, California. Formed in 2005, they have released seven full-length albums and three EPs.
Special guests are The Worst Case Scenario, Enfuraeon and Spitlife.

Haggard, Strait, Yoakam, Whitley tunes featured at tribute
Will Banister and Friends will present “A Tribute to Haggard, Strait, Yoakam and Whitley at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, at the Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave.
Banister, Danny Cadra and Jason Fellers will sing the top hit songs of these four legendary country singers.

Mike Pritchard Friends Fest set for July 11
The Mike Pritchard Friends Fest is scheduled for noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 11 at the Prima Vista Event Center, 402 Inler (North FM-179).
The event includes a beer and wine bar along with a variety of food trucks and live music all day. There will also be a silent auction.
Live performances include Michael Xray, Love Loud, Mark Wallney, Junior Vasquez, Showdown, Dustin Garret, Jenny Dale Lord, Danny Carda, Hub City Rocks, Walley Moyers and Texas Cadillac Jack.
Tickets for the event are $15 at the door, or they may be purchased in advance at Ralph’s Records and the Prima Vista Event Center box office.
Movies 16 to host special screening of ‘Coppelia’
Movies 16 Lubbock, 5721 58th St., will host a special encore screening of the Bolshoi Ballet’s “Coppelia” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 11.
Swanilda notices her fianceé Franz is infatuated with the beautiful Coppelia who sits reading on her balcony each day. Nearly breaking up the two sweethearts, Coppelia is not what she seems and Swanilda decides to teach Franz a lesson…
The Bolshoi’s ebullient comedy Coppelia involves a feisty heroine, a boyish fianceé with a wandering eye, an old dollmaker, and a stunning corps de ballet abounding in youthful energy and irresistible humor in this effervescent production.

Movies 16 Lubbock, 5721 58th St., is hosting a special encore screening of The Gershwins’ “Porgy and Bess” at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14.
The Metropolitan Opera’s smash-hit production was recorded live from the Met in 2020, the acclaimed staging transports audiences to Catfish Row, a setting vibrant with the music, dancing, emotion, and heartbreak of its inhabitants — and includes several numbers that have become American standards, including the classic “Summertime.”

West Texas born and bred, singer, songwriter and radio personality Cathy Jewell began her musical journey born into a radio family. According to her website, as she would work at the radio station and play artists like Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Merle Haggard, Crystal Gayle, and others, she “began to develop my own style of singing and writing music.” Jewell was named the 2020 CMA of Texas Artist of the Year and the 2019 AWA Pure Country Female Vocalist of the Year.

Movies 16 to screen Drum Corps International celebration
Movies 16 Lubbock, 5721 58th St., is hosting a special screening of The Drum Corps International Celebration Countdown at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 15.
Following a one-year hiatus, this special one-night event features amazing sights and sounds from five of the nation’s top Drum Corps International ensembles, including iconic DCI World Championship performances from Fort Mill, SC’s Carolina Crown’s Inferno (2015); Rosemont, IL’s The Cavaliers’ Propaganda (2016), Concord, CA’s Blue Devils’ Metamorph (2017); Santa Clara, CA’s Santa Clara Vanguard’s (2018) Babylon; and Canton, OH’s Bluecoats The Bluecoats 2019).
Additionally, interspersed between the performances, attendees will see live spots with broadcast hosts from the spring training site of the Bluecoats, in addition to pre-recorded up-to-the-moment rehearsal camp updates from several other groups that will appear at DCI events this August at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium.

Movie night coming to Jones AT&T Stadium
All of West Texas is invited to Jones AT&T Stadium on July 16 when Texas Tech Athletics hosts its annual “Movie Night” featuring Disney-Pixar’s “Soul.”
Gates will open beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the movie slated for a 7 p.m. start. All attendees are encouraged to utilize the C-1 parking lot west of Jones AT&T Stadium and use the Gate 1 ramp (southwest corner) for access to the field.
Fans are allowed to bring blankets and bottled water into the stadium and onto the field. Lawn chairs will not be permitted. Food can be brought into the facility or purchased from the concession stand, but must remain in the seating areas and off the field. Kids can also enjoy inflatable games in the south end zone prior to the start of the movie.

Country rock’s Exile coming to Hub City
2021 marks Exile’s 58th year as America’s longest running band and the country rock group is set to perform Friday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave.
On Sept. 30, 1978, the award-winning band who had initially set out to play small clubs in Richmond, Kentucky back in 1963, skyrocketed to world-wide fame with their multi-week chart-topper “Kiss You All Over.” The iconic song has been showcased in feature films such as “Happy Gilmore,” “Employee of the Month,” “Zookeeper, “Wildhogs,” and is played in it’s entirety at the end of the 7th episode of “Mindhunter” currently available as a Netflix original.
Tickets for this show include: reserved floor, first 5 rows (A-E), $49; remainder of floor (rows F-M and ADA), $45; reserved balcony seating, $35; and limited balcony box (includes concessions), $80.
