FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER | PEDRO FERREIRA – DIVE Magazine
Featured Photographer | Pedro Ferreira
My name is Pedro Ferreira, I am an underwater photographer from Guimarães, Portugal, currently living in Mozambique. My passion for scuba diving began in 2013 when I moved out to Mozambique, as many of my friends were already diving, and hearing their conversations post-dive, I was curious as to what it was all about. They urged me to try but I was hesitant. It wasn’t until I went to Inhaca Island, just in front of Maputo bay, and 30 minutes of snorkelling were enough for me to change my mind. A few weeks later with a GoPro, I shot underwater for the first time, but somehow it was not enough to keep up satisfy me. I started to think a bit bigger and save some money to buy new underwater photography gear, and the enthusiasm grew and the quality of the pictures.
There are a few particular species that I love to photograph, mainly on muck dives, but frogfish are the biggest delight to photograph. When it comes to photography, my focus is to showcase the beauty of our beloved ocean. Mozambique is a beautiful place to dive, with more than 2,500 km coastline and wonderful beaches/islands, not to mention the vast array of marine life. We have the tiniest critters such as the African pygmy seahorse to the largest ones such as whale sharks and manta rays. There is also awesome estuary dives, or mangrove diving. There is a shark diving on the extreme south of Mozambique (Ponta do Ouro), which is unforgettable.
