Senior TJ Deagan has made an impact for the Tuskers as a member of both the lacrosse and football teams. As a freshman, he was All League for lacrosse, and during his sophomore year he was named All League for football and All Section for lacrosse. In addition, he was also named as a Super 11 finalist for football this year, an accolade which recognizes the top players in Section 1. Recently, TJ took the time to speak with The Somers Record about the Fall 2 football season and reflect on his athletic career at Somers High School.
Tuskers football is off to a great start! What do you hope to accomplish with the remainder of your season?
Our main goal for the season is to stay undefeated and win the Section Championship.
What is your favorite memory from your high school sports career?
I think my favorite memory has to be our comeback win against Rye last year. Coach DeMatteo said it was one of his greatest wins in his career.
How has Covid impacted your training over the past year?
Covid definitely had a huge impact on my weight training in the gym. It was hard only doing at-home workouts with the select few weights I had in my house.
Multiple years with both the lacrosse and football team is quite an accomplishment. How would you describe the overall experience of playing sports at Somers High School?
My four years of varsity lacrosse and three years of varsity football have been the most fun I’ve had in my life. Playing in front of a Somers crowd is an amazing experience, there’s really nothing like it.
What’s next after high school? Do you plan to continue with your athletics?
After high school I will be attending the University of Albany to play lacrosse. It has always been a dream of mine to play Division 1 lacrosse and I’m really looking forward to it.
Is there anyone you would like to recognize who helped you succeed, either on or off the field?
I’d like to thank my parents for always pushing me to do well in everything I do, and all my lacrosse and football coaches. They have always been amazing influences on me and have taught me so many life lessons.
